Painting is a fairly new discovery for me, and I find that my passion grows with each new piece. A couple of years ago I came across a friend's bucket of paints in the closet...they literally fell on my head! "Hhmmm," I thought, "now there's an idea." I sat down and gave it my best shot.

Just as I headed for the garbage, my friend said, "No, Laura; that's really good." I wanted to laugh but sat down instead to paint another. She said it again. Well, I don't know how accurate she was, but the power of suggestion was the key to my continuation. Now I can't imagine my life without a canvas laid out in front of me.

My ideas come for the most part from the paints themselves. I've been writing screenplays for the past 12 years, and just as the characters tell me what to say, the paints tell me what to paint. It's never worked out for me to come up with a vision and then paint that vision. I paint, and eventually the vision shows itself.

I continue to learn and try new techniques. I use everything from the kitchen knife to a hair comb to create texture (nothing safe in this house).

I hope you'll enjoy my paintings, as I have fallen in love with the process of creating them.
